Afterlife Archive Version 2.0 is on it's way!

And it will have a bunch of new features, new writing, new art, and revised rules! This upcoming iteration will offer more personalized, engaging gameplay. >u<

Let's discuss some of what will be new:

Clarified Case File: There's a new Case File page full of tips and prompts to help beginners get accustomed to the format! It's way more informative and insightful than the old Case File Example page.

Optional Reactions: Now, prompts in the Evidence Keys will be joined by a pair of Optional Reactions. Players may pick a Reaction to negatively or positively affect their Nerve Check roll, ultimately modulating the difficulty of the game. Players aren't required to pick either one, and the Nerve Check will proceed as normal.

Make Up Your Own Encounters: There have been two empty slots added to the Phenomenon Key where players are invited to devise their own paranormal encounters! Shuffle the Jokers before you draw for Phenomenon Evidence, and if you reveal one or both of them, you'll be met by a totally unique encounter!

Create a Psychic: The Psychic's Verdict Key has been ammended with a mini-game where players may design the professional profile of imaginary psychic-for-hire! Give your psychic a name, age, and specialization. How long have they been in the field? How much do they charge for their services? Write a bio for them. Draw or generate their profile picture!

Expanded Entity Index: Each page of the Entity Index will include a blank space designated for the player's custom Entity Types! Give your Entity a name. Describe it. Decide its Classic Traits. And illustrate it! Custom Entities can be used in gameplay and identified as the Entity Type in Case Files!

Revamped Entity Descriptions: I've rewritten all the Entity descriptions in order for more flexibility when choosing the Entity Type in-game. I hope you'll enjoy the personalities I've imbued the Entities with!

Entity Redraws: I intend to redraw all of the Entities, as I want polish some of the illustrations and create all new ones for a few of the Entities. These will be done in graphite, and I plan on doing careful shading. ;)

Possession Epilogue: There will be a little mini-game to be done after the Case File is finished. In this mini-game, the idea is that you may have closed the case, and you may have put the haunted property in your rear-view mirror, but the spirit latched on. Players will be prompted to roll a d6 to determine whether or not they Dodged Possession. Depending on the Entity Type you investigated, if a certain number is rolled, the player will be Possessed. Then, you'll be asked to write an account of what the Possession felt like and what the spirit did while it had control of your body. You should use your Case File to inspire the account.

Purification Devices Illustrated on Farewell Page: If you do become Possessed, you'll need help purifying yourself before moving on to the next case, right? I plan on stacking a bunch of drawings onto the Farewell page of the zine, drawings of things like Sacred Texts, Books of Spells, Sage, Crosses, Candles, The Moon, Blessed Water, Rune Stones, Salt, Iron Amulets, and other stuff. I'll have to look into popular purification rituals from around the globe. Anyway, it's good to have an arsenal of things like that when you're dealing with the paranormal. ;)

Achievements Page: I'll be adding an Achievements Checklist on the last page of the book, where players can keep track of  certain reactions they chose, encounters with certain entites, completing mini games, creating their own entites and encounters, and so much more!

As you can see, Afterlife Archive is getting a SERIOUS upgrade. I am super duper excited to share this new version. It is going to be a significantly fuller game and better experience for players.

The update is coming soon. Within the next week or so everything should be ready and the pdf will drop here! So please keep your eyes peeled for it~ ^u^
